ALGÉRIA

Lara Portela

“Algéria” continues Lara Portela’s artistic and even academic path, linked to archives and memory, seeking to rethink issues and practices explored in previous projects, such as the virtualization of the work table and the separation between performer and audience. The project, under development at PERPHOTO Lab, is part of a collection of photographs from Algeria, dating from the 90s that belonged to a geologist, and intends to develop into a landscape-travel narrative.

Lara Portela has a degree in Fine Arts from ESAD-CR, attended the Independent Study Program at Maumaus, the Pedagogical Area of Teatro do Vestido and also Outras Escritas Para Teatro at Teatro do Silêncio. She has a vast academic, professional and artistic career, including the visual arts project Fabião: negativos, positivos e outras histórias (2014) – residency in collaboration with Nelson Melo at the Museu da Imagem em Movimento – and Vestido Amarelo (2018), a solo-performance for screen. With the aim of deepening her interest in collections, objects and archives, in 2019 she started a new cycle of studies dedicated to Museology at Universidade Nova de Lisboa, a master’s degree she is currently attending.
