The projects selected within the PERPHOTO Lab will be accompanied by tutors José Capela, Paula Caspão and Susana Paiva.
José Capela is a professor and researcher at the University of Minho (Lab2PT), where he teaches in Architecture and Theater courses. He founded and directs, with Jorge Andrade, the mala voadora company, being responsible for the scenography of the shows. He was president of APCEN (2016-2018) and won the Set Design Authors Award in 2016 (Pirandello, mala voadora). He collaborated with CNB and TNSJ and designed a scenography-installation for Teatro do Bairro Alto.
Paula Caspão is a researcher at the Center for Theater Studies at UL, as well as at the Institute of Contemporary History, also maintaining academic relationships with the Tisch School of the Arts / Performance Studies (NYU). Her artistic and academic work addresses the dramaturgies and ecologies of the Museum, Archive and History. She founded Theory-Fiction Cabinet (T-Fi), co-founded INSTITUT and is a member of the collective ‘baldio | Performance Studies’. She is the author of Relations on Paper (2013).
Susana Paiva has a long and established career as a photographer of theater shows in Portugal, having collaborated with some of the main structures / theatrical companies in the country. It has numerous exhibitions and edited books, both in theater and documentary photography. She has run the Informal School of Photography since its creation year, in 2012, being responsible for the training of several theater photographers. At the CITEMOR Festival 2019 she presented Anatomy of an Image, her first performance.
